Living in small urban voids, Butel, Skopje 2020
Description
In the context of urban area development, every inhabited place should cultivate an ecosystem that actively supports food production. The chosen locality between the city and the surrounding area represents a place of new urban living, which allows residents to participate and benefit from living in agricultural landscapes. The productive landscaping concept (Productive Landscaping) represents the main project concept as an expression of the integration of urban and rural (Bohn & Viljoen, 2020; link).
Local communities should be a community of active residents who will participate and benefit from nurturing their environment. Residents may be employed during the weekdays and become farmers during the weekends. The project should enable dialogue between people and nature, resulting in a new era of urban community.
This could feature local agriculture, organic gardens, plant nurseries, and more. All of this helps to create a microclimate significantly better than that of the city and to establish a system of ecological oases within it.
